AN EYE OPENER

Our speaker Tuesday was Natalie Powell, research analyst at Join Together Northern Nevada (JTNN). What an eye opener to hear about the serious drug problems that are effecting our youth. Smoking marijuana between ages of 13 and 25 can lower you IQ 8 points. Today's marijuana is 20 times more powerful than it was 30 years ago. The opioids being used and how they are obtained will break your heart. Natalie had many suggestions for coping. If you would like more information contact her at natalie@partnershipcarsoncity.org.
We had announcements and recognition. Larry Burton from the Rotary Club of Reno Central brought handouts for their upcoming fund raiser on July 9th and 10th. The event is the 5th annual Meadow View Farms Charity Horse Show and Dinner. Central is partnering with Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation. For more information you can contact Sarah Mulllins at sarah@meadowviewfarms.biz or Central. President Duane reminded us to respond to the evite from Lynn Johnson for our upcoming Brewery and dinner tour at Great Basin Brewing Company on June 7th. Bell ringing, Larie for celebrating his 67th Birthday, Melissa for launching her youngest son into the world after graduating from college, Roberto, with a weepy eye for turning 39, Jim for his D.C. Industry meeting and Carol for her Grandson as the starting pitcher in the Championship game and winning plus her oldest Granddaughter's award banquet for winning third place for the State of CA in Ag Science.
Claire gave us a great presentation on requesting RYE homes. I am sure Chesa enjoyed some one else trying to recruit homes for inbound students.
We also had the pleasure of meeting Megan Fisher, one of our RYLA students and her mother Jacqueline. Megan is attending Bishop Manogue Catholic High School. We asked if she would like to speak and she was shy but not worries wait tell we hear from her after RYLA.
Our Procational speaker was Scott Maylath. What a military career. Special Forces in the Army is no piece of cake. He spent several years in Russia, The Balkans, Afghanistan, a part of the nuclear response team and much more. Now that Scott has retired our District is already trying to recruit him. Scott has had a long relationship with Rotary starting with a Cub Scout Camp sponsored by Rotaqwan I believe in Michigan
Larie looks pretty mellow after drawing the white marble. A free dinner is always appreciated.
