Falling Back and Catching Up!

It has been a busy fall and there is a lot to catch up on with all our club events and meetings!

Our District Governor, Doug McDonald stopped by in September to award some of our very own club members! Cindy Welch received her 6th Paul Harris. Carol Hannigan received not only her 5th Paul Harris, but was also awarded the Quiet Rotarian.

Our very own John Milliken celebrated his birthday in September and in honor of his own birthday, he awarded both Rick Lierman and Scott
Maylath with a Paul Harris. What a great act of fellowship!

Our RYLA students came to talk with us about their amazing experience at Camp Grizzly this summer and how they are using everything they learned to better their schools. The three students shared stories of overcoming fears, learning that they are not alone navigating the struggles of teenage experiences, and their new desires to do great things for their communities. Our Manogue students are even taking it to the next level and restarting the Interact program this year.

We had our inaugural Dogs of Rotary event and it was a blast. Chesa did a great job planning and everyone stepped up to make the event a huge success. We had amazing events including Mitch demonstrate the great work he has done training service dogs, the Reno Police Department’s K9 Unit dog presentation, a drumming performance by the Halau Hula o Lelani of Reno, and all the dog events and contests. Not to mention the great raffle prizes that Carol organized. Not mention within all the fun, we were able to raise funds to provide a service to a veteran.

Christi Cakiroglu with Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful came and spoke to us about all the work they do to keep our community beautiful. They hold events throughout the year to clean up the river and surrounding areas. In addition to clean up days, they have advocacy programs to prevent illegal dumping and youth education programs. They even have a sensory garden at Idlewild Park that you should check out if you haven’t yet!

Terri Cooper with Switch came and spoke during the Halloween meeting. I was not able to make the meeting, but thanks to Carol sending some pictures, your costumes can be enjoyed by everyone!
