Youth Services chair Hillary Schuss gives us an update on last week's speech contest.

Last week at our meeting on March 9, the Rotary Club of Reno Centennial Sunset held our annual speech contest. As many things this year, our speech contest was quite different than in previous years. With four contestants from both Bishop Manogue and Damonte Ranch High Schools (2 students from each school), we aired the contest via Zoom. Instead of hearing from them directly, and trying to coordinate with the judges online, we opted for videos that were shared with our judges, Joe Musser, Claire Zybert, Dave Zybert and Joe Burgess the week before. First place went to Marina (DRHS), and second place was a very close call between Abigail and Glynn (Manogue), with Maranda coming in fourth. Marina will go on to the District 5190 Area 8 contest on April 7th, and if she wins that stage, she will compete at the District Conference on April 30th. Thank you to all of our judges and Larie Trippet for tallying the judging sheets and sending out checks to the winners.
